Defiant leaders have swept into nearly all of Hong Kong's district councils. The landslide election victory for pro-democracy candidates is being seen as a snub to the Beijing-backed establishment. But whether it will lead to the systemic change that protesters demand is not yet clear. Reporter Barbara Miller has more from Hong Kong.

Pro-democracy candidates in Hong Kong have won an unprecedented and symbolic victory in district council elections. Voters turned out in record numbers after almost six months of protests that have caused the territory's worst political crisis in decades. Beijing says Hong Kong is part of China, "no matter what happens in elections". But that is unlikely to go down well with the protesters who have been calling for less interference from the mainland. Al Jazeera's Scott Heidler reports from Hong Kong.
