AFP on November 15 reported that the Italian government declared a state of emergency in Venice, after the highest tide in more than 50 years engulfed many important works here.
Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said the government decided to spend 20 million euros (about 511 billion dong) on Venice to overcome the consequences of the high tide caused on November 12.
Conte said each affected family would receive emergency assistance of 5,000 euros, while restaurant and store owners could be given 20,000 euros per person or more.
