News|Are the chances of finding peace in Libya getting worse? | Inside Story

The UN is again pushing its peace plan for Libya, but warlord Khalifa Haftar is threatening a final offensive on the capital Tripoli. And Turkey is planning to step up its support for the internationally recognised government. Eight months ago, warlord Khalifa Haftar's forces defiantly marched towards Libya's capital, Tripoli. Their aim - to unseat the internationally recognised government of Fayez Al Serraj. But after several bouts of fighting, the battlelines haven't shifted much - and at least a thousand people have been killed and many more displaced. Now, Haftar says he is launching a final push to tip the balance. That offensive could lead to both sides getting more military support from different countries in violation of a UN arms embargo on Libya. Turkey says it's ready to send troops to boost Sarraj's forces.
