India's police force fired tear gas as people took to the streets setting vehicles on fire on Thursday in protest against a new citizenship law based on religion, the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), that has sparked violent unrest.
Indian police also detained dozens of people protesting the new citizenship law that is seen as anti-Muslim during demonstrations on Thursday.
Citing law and order concerns following violent protests against the law during the past week, officials said authorities imposed bans on Thursday in parts of New Delhi and two big states. Police in Uttar Pradesh, a northern state that is India's most populous, also declared a ban on protests
