Bugs for breakfast - insects steal show at Green Week

Swiss start-up Essento showed off their edible insect-based products at International Green Week in Berlin on Wednesday, the world's largest food industry, agriculture and horticulture exhibition.

The pioneering company sells a variety of insect-based products and snacks, including dried insects, bars made with insect flour, as well as burgers and falafel.

Essento co-founder Christian Bartsch says that insect-based products taste good, are sustainable and provide valuable protein.

Hungry visitors to Green Week could try the unusual products, with one tester describing the dried insects as "like potato chips, but I don't get fat from it."

Head of marketing at Essanto, Melchior Fuglistaller, explained that the idea behind the insect-based products was to "push the food revolution forward," lauding them as a healthier and more sustainable source of protein in comparison to meat.
