Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with his Kiribati counterpart Taneti Maamau at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Monday. During the talks, President Xi said China and Kiribati have ushered in a new chapter of bilateral cooperation. The two countries restored diplomatic relations in September 2019. Maamau reiterated his support to the one-China policy. He said the decision of restoring diplomatic ties was made independently, based on mutual trust and faith.
