Sau khi phát hiện chiếc xe máy vừa trộm được giá trị không cao, Thẳng tiếp tục đột nhập nhà dân trộm chiếc xe có giá trị thì bị chủ xe phát hiện, truy hô. Sáng ngày 25-11, Công an huyện An Phú, tỉnh An Giang, cho biết vừa khởi tố và tạm giam Nguyễn Văn Thẳng, sinh năm 1997, trú tại xã Phú Hữu, huyện An Phú, để tiếp tục điều tra về hành vi "Trộm cắp tài sản".
